After all the excitement of the past few days, N and I are back to a spot of decorating . . . just for a change! We are taking on the lounge - at 15'6" x 13' it's our biggest room. It's amazing the difference just slopping a bit of white paint around makes (OK, maybe not slopping; we are actually quite particular painters). From being a dull and neglected room, it is now looks clean and bright. We have made decisions on the wallpaper (having learned our lessons on how poorly the walls deal with being painted) so we are making steady progress through the order of work. We are dab hands at it now ;-)
We've also, finally, decided on tiles for the kitchen. There's just so much choice available nowadays, it's all a bit overwhelming. Tiling will be a job for next week, when we will have an extra pair of (very experienced) hands staying with us, keen to get stuck into a bit of DIY.
Very, very gradually we are beginning to see our way with this house. We still spend a lot of time trying to remember where we left this or that particular item that we now need, and which never seems to be in the same place as it was last time. It will be so good when the decorating is finished and we are able to settle on permenent places for everything. In the meantime we will just continue to play the 'hide and seek' game.
The birdlife here is wonderful. Maybe it is simply because we are in our own garden rather than overlooking someone else's. This morning we watched a pair of greenfinches on the back fence, and later we were thrilled to see a pair of green woodpeckers digging up an ants' nest on the front lawn.
