Yesterday we took the grandchildren and their mum to the Victorian Festival of Christmas at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, and what a wonderful time we all had. There was entertainment, music, street theatre, dancing, Christmas characters, snow (!); so much to see and do.
We had a ride on the 'Gallopers' (I got very nostalgic), the youngsters tried the swing-boats, we saw two lovely reindeer, a brilliant street magician, a musical performance about Santa losing weight (too much plum pudding to fit down the chimneys), 'angels' on Segways, lots of Victorian characters (the schoolmaster wanted to know why the grandchildren were not at school!), the Rose and Thistle Pipes and Drums, and lots, lots more.

We saw Nelson's flagship, HMS Victory, and HMS Warrior (we'll have to spend another day over there to look round the ships, including the Mary Rose exhibition), a display of intricate model battleships, and some vintage model steam engines.

We probably missed lots of things, but there was just so much to see and do. It was great entertainment value and we all had a wonderful day. It wasn't just the grandkids who were weary by the time we came home!
We're off for catching up with family 'up north'; back at the end of the week.
