More alterations

I've spent much of today altering one of my daughter's dresses.  It's a shop-bought one and is a fantastic purple colour, but is just a bit too wide across the back, and on her last visit here she asked if I could have a look at it for her.  I've had to reposition the zip to take in some of the fullness.  Sounds simple enough, but it was quite fiddly, and took me longer than I expected.

One altered dress doesn't sound like much to show for a day, but when I did a quite recap, I realised that I/we had done the following:

  • changed the bed
  • washed and dried a load of laundry
  • walked into town for fresh vegetables (round trip of 2 miles)
  • checked out webbing at the local haberdashers for a future project
  • made a roast chicken dinner from scratch, then stripped the chicken to make pies tomorrow, and boiled up the carcass for stock
  • emptied the small freezer and loaded the chest freezer
  • cleaned out the small freezer
  • hoovered through the house
Now it's all written down, I feel a bit better.  I did have a list to work through, and everything was done, and one or two extras as well.  Sometimes I wonder if we are as 'busy' as we ought to be, and I know when the garden starts up there will be plenty to do again.  But projects are being completed, things crossed off lists, and progress made, even if it seems slow.  It's good to take time and slow down, especially when we look back to remember how we used to rush around when we were at work, desperately trying to get everything done and ending up tired and irritable.  That seems a long way away now, and we are able to enjoy our life so much more.

Tomorrow I'll start off another list and hopefully work my way through some more 'jobs to do'.
