But the sun has shone most of the weekend and I've been able to finish the garage door completely. Most of the weekend, though, has been about curtains.
I enjoy making curtains but buying yards of fabric, lining and heading tape can add up so we've managed to pick up two pairs of curtains in charity shops. One pair has already been altered and I spent time yesterday shortening and hemming the other pair.
I think the fabric has a slightly 'shabby chic' look about it. I'm not sure if this particular trend is still 'in' or not but we like the muted colours and the fact that the curtains were originally made in Britain. We've decided to have the curtains in our bedroom and the others have been moved into the single room. I'm now in the middle of altering some curtains we bought from our previous house to fit the lounge windows. The curtains were originally for a full-length bay window so they are big and heavy and take quite a bit of man-handling! There is a lot of measuring and pinning, then measuring again before I dare start cutting. We hope to have all curtains in their correct new locations by the end of the week. That's quite a bit of sewing. But we will have curtained the house for the princely sum of £13, considerably cheaper than buying new, and we have given some perfectly good charity-shop curtains a new lease of life.
We had a break this afternoon and went for a walk along the local footpaths.
The leaves are just beginning to turn and drop and the low sun casts some wonderful shadows. It was just good to get out and about and we reminded ourselves, yet again, of how fortunate we are to have all this just a couple of minutes from our doorstep.
