Dismantling - and a bit of a flood

The peaony in full bloom - just beautiful!

We've run out of steam a bit, I don't mind admitting.  We were both really tired by yesterday evening so we gave ourselves the afternoon off today, and caught up with a bit of essential shopping, washing, and cleaning.  It has also given us the chance to take stock of what we've done, where we're at and what needs doing next.  We have workmen coming in this week and we have to ensure certain jobs are done in preparation for them.

Yesterday we carried on with the bathroom demolition.  All the tiles were removed, some more easily than others, and then the bath itself had to come out.  It proved a bit of a challenge but, as usual, where there is a will, there's a way, even if it wasn't the conventional way!  And yes, the water was turned off first.

Having removed the bath, and gone on to something else, I noticed that there was water trickling (actually it was rather more than a trickle) up from the disconnected pipework, which definitely shouldn't have been happening.  A moment of panic ensued.  Towels and rags were flung at the floor to mop up the growing puddle.  Words were uttered.  There was a problem with a valve and/or feed tanks (the technical bit eluded me).  N ingeniously temporarily 'fixed' the problem by refitting the taps to the pipes.  It was all a bit hairy for a while  =:o

We took things easy today, spending just the morning on the house.  We had a tidy up - the tools seemed to have found their way into every room in the place, yet we could never put our hand on the one we wanted - then turned our attention to the kitchen.  We began dismantling the floor and wall units, working out what we might be able to make use of again as storage and shelving.  The oven and hob we left; I think we may need to seek some guidance on disconnecting those.

Before . . .

. . . and after

Tomorrow we plan to tackle the front lawn with hand shears and my new toy, a sprung-tine lawn rake, which we bought today.  I can see it being well-used over the coming months as we try to tame the garden.  I also want to have a good look around to see what plants we actually have growing in the garden - my 'green fingers' are beginning to itch!
